“Masato” Cindy

God Moments by John and Cindy Mortimer: Many of you have heard about Masato. The Yuca Drink of the Amazon Jungle. When the Lord was touching my heart to marry John (Another Story) I knew this was waiting for me. I laugh as I think, Thats why it took so long to get there. HA For those of you that haven’t heard (God called us to take a 58 foot by 13 foot HouseBoat to the Amazon from Duluth, MN. To Iquitos, Peru. Left in Duluth 1983. Arrived in Iquitos 1988. (Back to this Story.) My first trip into the Jungle hear it comes: I’m sorry, but I couldn’t get it passed my brain what Masato was. I didn’t want to offend the people but how it was made… inside of me I just couldn’t do it. (Believe it or not on my own I have a very week stomach. My family and close friends can Testify to that.) John stepped up to me and said. “Hey Baby, I’ll share with you. I told him “John, I can’t” He thought I meant, I didn’t want to share with him. I meant “I don’t want it!” (Communication between Husband’s and Wives! Ha! ) To update you on what Masato is: Now to a Peruvian it’s like Coffee everyone drinks it. To an American it’s like “What were they Thinking?” (Masato is in the short version: Chewed up Boil Yuca Root, Spit Out & Saved and Fermented, mixed with Water and served to you to drink. Looks like Milk.) Here we are visiting the first village: Hear it comes ready or not. The Drink I’ve only heard about. I still couldn’t get it passed my brain what was coming my way. I knew God Called us to be Missionaries there and after the long boat ride just to get to Peru and everything the Lord had brought us through I didn’t want to offend these people. When I politely took my cup I looked down and it was a Juice! I took a sip and sure enough it was PINEAPPLE JUICE. I told John that I got Pineapple Juice. He was shocked as he grew up in the Mountains of Mexico (Family Missionaries) and he knew anytime anything was served everyone got the same thing. (They don’t have refrigeration to save things) I was thinking hey I’m the new person and they had some extra back in the little jungle hut and they were just being nice. The 2nd village we went to: Again I knew it was waiting for me. I just couldn’t get it passed my brain what it was. Again talking to the Lord about it. Not wanting to offend them here it comes. John came to me again. Hey Baby, do you want to share? He knew I was having a hard time with it. Again I said “I can’t.” Him thinking again the same thing and also thinking Cindy you’re going to get a lot to drink. I’m very happy to say again when I got my cup, you guessed it. I looked down again into my cup and it was (Pineapple Juice) God is so good!! When John found out that I received Pineapple Juice for the 2nd time and he got Masato along with everyone else he said, “Baby, you better start praying for me too!” I just went on and enjoyed my Pineapple Juice. Now here comes the 3rd. village: All along I’m talking to people but believe me I was really talking to God and do you know what? The Lord lifted that repulsive feeling off of me. And I told the Lord. “I think I can handle it this time” And sure enough that time I got Masato. It had a taste all it’s own. Like Sour Milky runny Yogurt. Closest thing I can think of for in the USA. I truly believe that He’ll never give you anything you can’t handle because He’ll be there and walk with you to help you through everything you go through if you let Him. God cares about the Big things and the Little things in our lives. Even what we eat and drink. We have been ministering and living there over 30 years and I can also say I’ve never seen it where everyone was served one thing and only one other person received something else. I truly believe God turned Masato into Pineapple Juice 2 times for me. We serve and Amazing God!!
